Coles is always looking at ways to create a working and shopping environment in which all customers and team members feel comfortable, whatever their needs.
Coles acknowledges and understands that for many individuals and families, a trip to the shops can be challenging.
That is why, in August 2017, Coles partnered with Autism Spectrum Australia (ASPECT) to trial a low-sensory shopping experience, Quiet Hour, to support customers who are, or have family members, on the autism spectrum and who find it challenging to shop in a heightened sensory environment.
Quiet Hour offers a low-sensory shopping experience by making small changes in-store such as dimming the lighting, muting Coles radio, rostering on additional team members for support and switching off checkout sounds.
Following the overwhelming success of the trial and in response to customer feedback, Coles now offers Quiet Hour every Tuesday between 10:30am and 11:30am in 70 supermarkets across Australia. As part of Coles Accessibility Action Plan, launched in June 2018, Quiet Hour will now be rolled out to more stores.
