Welcome

Welcome to our new website that provides the latest information about our sustainability performance across the Group.

For over 100 years, Wesfarmers has remained focused on the long term. Since Wesfarmers became a publicly listed company in 1984, our core objective has been to deliver satisfactory returns to shareholders over the long term. We believe it is only possible to achieve this if we manage our businesses in a sustainable manner and this means managing and understanding the impact we have on people and the environment and playing a positive role in the communities we serve.

Our performance

Overview

We acknowledge that we can continue to improve our performance

People development

While Wesfarmers’ workforce is 58 per cent female and 42 per cent male, the Group remains focused on increasing the percentage of leadership positions held by women.

Waste and water use

Despite our efforts, ongoing reductions in gross waste disposed and water used are becoming increasingly challenging to achieve as our businesses grow. We will continue to seek opportunities to reduce waste and water use.

Ethical sourcing and human rights

We will continue to focus on ethical sourcing and human rights, especially supply chain transparency. Identifying and remediating critical breaches in our supply chain is an important step. We recognise there are limitations to what social compliance audits can achieve and we must remain proactive.

Indigenous Employment

Following the demerger of Coles, we recognise that we have work to do and we have set a target of employment parity which is three per cent of our workforce by 2022.

CLIMATE CHANGE

This year, our businesses have adopted absolute and intensity emissions targets and we have climate change strategies, governance systems and disclosures which support the global goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

ETHICAL SOURCING

We strive to source products in a responsible manner while working with suppliers to improve their social and environmental practices.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

We strive to create an inclusive work environment, with particular attention to gender balance and the inclusion of Indigenous people.

Our community partners

We will make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate. For more than 100 years, Wesfarmers has been actively involved in the community. With its origins as a farmers’ cooperative in 1914, Wesfarmers has long held the belief that to have a healthy business, you must have strong, vibrant communities in which to live and work.

Wesfarmers Arts

The arts make a vital contribution to the communities in which we live and work. Explore the Wesfarmers Arts program: bringing people and art together.
