Kmart is committed to enhancing the voice, capabilities and quality of life of workers in its supply chain.

As part of this commitment, in 2017 Kmart joined the International Labour Organisation/International Finance Corporation Better Work program in Indonesia, Cambodia and Bangladesh. Better Work aims to bring diverse groups such as governments, global brands, factory owners, unions and workers together to improve working conditions in the garment industry and make the sector more competitive. The program achieves this through factory-level assessments and capacity building, as well as advocacy and research at a national and global level.

Kmart aims to transition all contracted apparel factories in Cambodia, Indonesia and Bangladesh to the program over the next two years. By 30 June 2017, 26 out of a total of 58 eligible factories had completed the self-diagnosis and independent assessment phase.

Next steps will involve Kmart’s team reviewing the assessment results and working in partnership with Better Work and our factories on long term improvement plans.
