Since 2013, Coles has provided essential support and financial assistance to children and young people with cancer and their families through its partnership with Redkite.
At the end of FY18, Coles’ team members and customers had raised over $28 million for Redkite, which has helped provide counselling services in hospitals, financial assistance and scholarships for young cancer patients and survivors.
In the first quarter of FY19, Coles and Redkite reached an important milestone when the total funds raised by Coles’ team members and customers for Redkite hit $30 million. This means Redkite will have provided essential support to Australian children and young people with cancer, and their families, more than 140,000 times.
“This incredible achievement is the result of a genuine, team-wide commitment to children and young people with cancer,” said Redkite CEO Monique Keighery. “Coles team members and customers are raising critically needed funds and awareness of the support Redkite can provide.”
Funds raised by Coles help families like Melissa and Damien Aird’s. Their daughter Sadie was diagnosed with leukaemia at seven years of age. Both Melissa and Damien gave up work to be there for their children and the financial pressure mounted.
“Redkite was there for us through the first shell-shocked days,” Melissa said. “Redkite has continued to support us with vouchers and counselling over the past 12 months, the most challenging year of our lives.”
