Diversity at Coles


Pride at Coles – Coles’ LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex) committee – is focussed on creating a supportive work environment for all team members by driving awareness and education on important LGBTI topics.

This year Coles acknowledged and celebrated International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) on 17 May.

As part of IDOHOT, team members across Coles Express and Coles Liquor decorated their store with purple balloons and posters to recognise IDAHOT and raise awareness of gender diversity and equality.

Coles also launched the Gender Affirmation and Transition Guidelines for team members and their Line Managers to support transgender people to adopt the style and presentation of their affirmed gender.

The guidelines explain how Coles will support transgender and gender fluid team members, and the support they can expect from their fellow team members. The Guidelines are part of Coles’ commitment to providing a safe, stimulating and encouraging environment for all team members. 

Coles Legal Director and Pride at Coles Sponsor David Brewster also hosted an event at the Store Support Centre which focused on LGBTI awareness and the importance of team members being their authentic selves at work.

Speakers included David Brewster, Genevieve Hawkins, Coles General Manager Health, Safety and Wellbeing, and guest speaker Tony Wood, Partner at Herbert Smith Freehills and 2013 recipient of the Australian Workplace Equality Index Executive Leadership Award for his work in LGBTI inclusion in the workplace.
