We aim to operate our businesses in accordance with our 10 community and environmental impact principles relating to five areas of people, sourcing, community, environment and governance. Each year, we review which issues are important to our stakeholders through our materiality process, and ensure that we are addressing these issues, and telling our story in this report. Within this framework, each business has identified the key issues most relevant to its operations, as described here.

Sustainability issues at Wesfarmers are managed at a divisional level and overseen by both divisional boards and the Wesfarmers Board through regular reporting.  

Wesfarmers divisions use a Greenhouse Gas Protocol Standard environmental management system to gather, analyse and report data. Data entered is internally audited and reviewed by management prior to being assured by our external auditor and reported in this annual sustainability report and in our Annual Report.

Internal and some external targets are set by divisions in relation to some sustainability issues and our annual risk process identifies and addresses sustainability risks. Our priority issues continue to be ethical sourcing and climate change resilience.

Our reports are aimed at a broad range of audiences, including employees, customers, suppliers, investors, governments and opinion formers in the fields of sustainability and business responsibility.
