LED lights up Target

This year, Target replaced more than 133,000 inefficient fluorescent tubes with LED lighting at 104 stores with the aim of saving 13,332,920 kilo watt hours (kWh) per annum. This is equivalent to the annual energy use of approximately 2,050 average Australian homes.

The carbon footprint of Target stores has reduced by 11,813 tonne/year (CO2 equivalent) and the equivalent of the investment has been paid back in 2.33 years in electricity savings.

LEDs are energy efficient, operate at a cooler temperature, consume approximately 50 per cent less electricity and last longer than the fluorescent tubes they replace. These benefits deliver environmental and financial savings in maintenance, replacement costs and store heating.

Target is evaluating extending this program.
