Coles transports broccoli sustainably

Coles has developed an innovative new way of transporting fresh produce with significant environmental benefits.

By changing the way broccoli and baby broccoli is transported, Coles has started a program to remove more than two million polystyrene boxes from its supply chain and waste stream over the next 12 months. The innovation using lined, reusable crates means broccoli and ice can be transported together, keeping the product fresh and cool and eliminating the need to use polystyrene.

This has reduced waste to landfill and reduced costs for farmers. It is a sustainable, innovative, closed loop system that can be expanded to include many other lines.
